We’re Hiring: Over 65s Advocacy Coordinator
JOB TITLE: Over 65s Advocacy Coordinator
CONTRACT: Fixed term contract until 31/12/2025
HOURS: 28 hours per week
WORKING TIMES: Flexible, during office hours across Monday – Friday.
PAY RATE: £18.418 per hour (£34,478 pro rata)
LOCATION: The Well Community Centre (E6 6DQ) and some home visits in Newham.
The cost of living crisis has pushed even more older people in Newham into poverty so many Over 65s are suffering with complex challenges and serious hardship. Some older people also find the online application forms difficult to navigate so they miss out on accessing the support they are entitled to.
Generous funding from The Mercers’ Company has enabled us to recruit an Over 65s Advocacy Coordinator to deliver free face-to-face advice appointments in our Community Centre in order to help local elders (and their carers) to overcome problems with housing, finances, bereavement, health care or transport.
Our project goals are to: 1) reduce stress; 2) maximize finances; 3) improve well being; 4) and empower people to live independently for as long as safely possible.
Our current post holder is retiring in August so we are looking for an experienced and compassionate candidate to take over the role for the next chapter. As well as delivering life-changing advice appointments and handling the follow up case work tasks each day, the new staff member will also line manage our Advocacy Assistant.
The appointed post holder will also serve as our charity’s Adult Safeguarding Lead, responsible for ensuring that vulnerable people known to our services are being properly protected and treated with the respect they deserve.
Please apply as soon as possible if you meet the Person Specification requirements and believe you are the right person to lead this important frontline support service.
Application process:
First, please read the full job description and person specification and do note that an enhanced DBS check will be required.
Please apply by sending an up-to-date CV and covering letter (maximum 1 page) to sarah.laing@bonnydowns.org. Ensure that your letter includes:
- demonstration of how your skills align with the Job Description
- how you are able to fulfil all the Person Specification criteria
- why you are interested in applying for the role.
Application deadline: Ongoing. Applications will be reviewed until we find someone suitable.
