Changes to Bonny Downs Nursery

  • 6 September 20238 September 2023

Bonny Downs Nursery was set up as a social enterprise to help bring in money to support the wider charitable work of BDCA. Since its inception, BDCA has been working hard to attract customers to make our nursery financially stable. Some of our own staff rely on the nursery for their childcare.

Despite our best efforts, the nursery has been making significant losses that BDCA as a charity simply cannot afford. After careful consideration by BDCA trustees and Senior Leadership Team, it was decided – due to the unsustainable financial losses putting the whole charity at risk – to hand over the nursery management to a more experienced provider. This will enable the nursery to continue providing childcare for local families with minimal disruption and prevent job losses.

Tiny Town Daycare is a similar nursery also based within a community centre, in south Newham. It has been running for over 12 years and received an Outstanding OFSTED rating in 2018. They will be turning Bonny Downs Nursery into their new branch. This will take effect from 23rd October 2023.

BDCA and Tiny Town are doing everything to ensure that the transfer is as smooth as possible for all the nursery staff, children, and parents/carers. Staff and parent/carers will have opportunities to meet the new management and clarify any queries.

“BDCA thanks all the staff and parents for their support of our nursery,” said Sarah Laing, Managing Director of BDCA. “We are hopeful that this transfer will keep providing local families with childcare options, despite the necessary changes.”
