Introducing Empower Youth Newham!

Together with our charity partners The Renewal Programme, we’ve launched a new project for Newham young people aged 9-19 years. We call it Empower Youth Newham, and it’s packed full of cool activities!

Our team of youth workers leads a varied weekly programme of activities and opportunities at high-quality venues across the borough, which are FREE and open to all.

Whether you want to play your favourite sport or try a new one; chill out or get creative at our drop-in youth club with everything from pizza nights and PS5 competitions to cooking and crafts, there’s loads going on.

And there’s opportunities for personal development too, with tuition and study skills help, special workshops and more.

December 2021 update

We’ve now updated our programme for the winter months, with some changes and new activities! Please check the calendar below.

Our Youth Club will be closed on Friday 3 and Friday 10 December for staff training.

Our Youth Club Christmas Party will take place on Thursday 16 December from 6-8pm at The Bobby Moore Sports Pavilion, and we’ve got treats a-plenty… So get your mates together and come get into the festive spirit with us!

Our last Youth Club session before the holidays will take place on Friday 17 December and we’ll be back for a new year of fun and opportunities in the week commencing Monday 10 January 2022.

Our youth team

Chrispin

Working with young people has been a passion of Chrispin’s since his school days. By the age of 19, he was leading youth sessions and working with diverse groups of young people from different backgrounds and cultures. He’s worked mainly within the South East of England from Acton and Northwood to Hackney and Newham. He says he’s passionate about sports and fitness and football is his favourite sport!

Maya

Maya’s been a youth worker in North and East London for over three years and is passionate about developing ambitious opportunities for young people, and positively supporting young people from disadvantaged communities. Among the activities she runs with us, Maya has launched BMX sessions to help young people in Newham to learn a new skill while being instructed by an expert coach. Maya has performed her own poetry and spoken word in public, has tracked lemurs in a Madagascan rainforest, and was once stranded on a desert island in Swaziland!

Joseph

Joseph has over 20 years’ experience working with young people. He’s been a semi-professional footballer, an amateur boxer and has even taught Taekwondo. Born and brought up in the East End, he has also spent time living abroad and enjoys travelling, skiing and most sports – especially football. He says he’d love to travel into space and do a parachute jump. While surfing in Hawaii, he was once bitten by a shark!

We are grateful for the London Borough of Newham’s funding and our partnership with The Renewal Programme that has made Empower Youth Newham possible.
