The Well Goes Fully Solar-Powered!
Big step toward a greener, more sustainable future in Newham.
BDCA is proud to announce that The Well Community Centre is now running entirely on solar power! This exciting development marks a major milestone in our journey toward energy independence and environmental sustainability.
The new solar panel system, recently installed by Carbon 3, is now fully operational. Carbon 3 has partnered with Community Energy Newham on several projects, including community-owned solar panel installations on local libraries across the borough.
This installation was made possible through funding from the Energy Resilience Scheme, which supports community organisations in implementing energy-saving upgrades.

In addition to the rooftop solar array, we’ve also begun replacing all our lighting with energy-efficient LED bulbs. We’ve introduced Smart Controls to ensure only rooms in use are heated, which is important with so many different groups hiring our spaces throughout the week.
Our Independent Energy Assessment estimates that the money we save on energy bills will offset the installation costs in less than four years! These changes aren’t just about saving money—they’re also a key part of BDCA’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2030, in alignment with the London Borough of Newham’s climate goals.
Community members are welcome to attend an official launch of the solar array at The Well on 23 June at 2 pm, during our Friends Day.
