Meet Sandra

  • 25 September 202514 October 2025
Sandra is a single mother who was struggling with a huge debt whilst trying to navigate a system she didn’t understand. This is her story of how Bonny Debt Advice helped her change her life:

“I was in a big trouble with a big debt payment on my house. I was around £17,000 in debt. So I was not in a good place. To be honest, I couldn’t make any plans for my life. Like the debt had taken over. I had plans for my life before. I was like, what am I going to do? I felt like I was going to prison. I don’t know the system, you know?

I think that they would’ve made me homeless. When I went to the court, I cried and couldn’t hear what they were saying. The judge said she has one month to leave the house. I was looking for a room. I was like lost. For sure, for every problem there is a solution, but I was not in a good position.

The person who was taking care of my case from the housing association told me to talk to Bonny Downs Debt Advice Service. They have been amazing, even though I know it’s their job to be kind. They helped me in so many ways, it’s not just to come here and fix the problem. They just talk to you like a human.

My English is not the best, especially speaking on the phone, I feel blocked. That’s why I love to come here in person.

They helped me. And now I’ve got plans. I’m happy with life. They helped me to pay off the debt. And I’m so grateful, I don’t have words, even in my language. It’s the compassion, the people, Maria, she’s a miracle worker.”

Your support can transform lives.

Bonny Downs Community Association’s debt advice service is entirely free to those in need, but we need the generosity of people like you. Your donation will help keep this lifeline open, giving more people the tools, confidence, and hope to rebuild their futures.

If you’re not in a position to donate, we understand. You can still support us by sharing our link with your contacts and social media.

Can you help us to keep delivering services to change local lives for the better and transform our community? We need you: become a Friend, gift one-off donation, join as a volunteer, or provide corporate support.
