BDCA welcomes UKPN as a Friend of the Foodbank!

  • 22 July 202122 July 2021
We’re delighted to welcome new corporate partner UK Power Networks to our Friends of Bonny Downs Foodbank network and want to say a big thank you for their generous donation to our poverty response work!
The electricity firm joins a network of local companies including ExCeL London and FSI who have decided to partner with us as Friends of Bonny Downs Foodbank to support their neighbours in need of food and advice due to low incomes and the effects of the pandemic. In return for donating to our poverty response project, BDCA will offer Friends regular updates on our work along with the opportunity to take part in events and volunteering days with the charity.

UK Power Networks owns and maintains the electricity cables and lines across London and beyond that make sure our lights stay on in Newham! Responsible for the power equipment and for moving and connecting new electricity cables, UK Power Networks keeps the electricity flowing for 2.3 million London properties including homes, businesses, schools and hospitals.

At the end of last year, UK Power Networks announced a new project to strengthen the power and resilience of supply in our area. Through the replacing of cable circuits between East Ham and Beckton and the construction of a new electricity substation in East Ham, it will help to strengthen the electricity network for the future and help meet increasing demand for power.

Part of UK Power Networks’ vision is to be a respected and trusted corporate citizen. We look at every opportunity to engage with our local communities and give back wherever possible.

Bonny Downs Community Association is situated very close to one of our electricity infrastructure upgrade projects at Nelson Street and we were extremely keen to reach out and see how we could help. We are looking forward to developing our partnership over the years to come!”

Claire Morrison, Project Manager at UK Power Networks

We are delighted to welcome UK Power Networks to our new Friends of Bonny Downs Foodbank network. One of the positives from the pandemic has been the way that our friends and neighbours have rallied together to support our neighbours in crisis, and it is really encouraging to meet community-minded local businesses who want to be part of the solution too. Thank you for your generous and much-needed support!”

Dave Mann, Chair of Bonny Downs Community Association

Nearly 18 months on since the start of the pandemic, demand for food parcels and debt advice at our food bank remains significantly higher than before the crisis started. Thank you UK Power Networks, and all of our corporate and individual Friends of the Foodbank for helping us to meet the continued high demand – we couldn’t do this without you!”

Kim Steward, Food Bank Manager at Bonny Downs Community Association
