Meet Aneta
At BDCA, we value our volunteers. They make it possible for us to serve our neighbours in need through giving their time, skills and knowledge selflessly. We are celebrating National Volunteers Week (1-7 June) with a tea party to thank them and by sharing one story a day of of some of our amazing volunteers.
Today we meet Aneta who volunteers for our Community Garden.
“It gives me something to look forward to and practise my English.”
Aneta attended our Easter interfaith celebration event last year which took place in our Community Garden. She appreciated it so much that she signed up as a garden volunteer to help her meet new people and improve her English-speaking skills. She is enjoying gardening and cooking for the other volunteers.
“If I didn’t have the garden, I wouldn’t have met so many different people,” she says. “It gives me something to look forward to and somewhere to practise my English in a friendly, welcoming place. I always feel happier after being in the garden.”
